NRF-SAIAB will be hosting its annual Student Symposium on Tuesday, 8 December 2020. This will be the second instalment of the symposium, which originally started in November 2019 to commemorate SAIAB’s 50th Anniversary. All students supervised at SAIAB give 5 minute presentations on their research work as well as Post-doctoral fellows and supervisors.
The presentations for this year’s Symposium will be grouped under three general themes: Fisheries, Conservation and Biodiversity & Ecology. The presentations will also highlight contributions to applied science, and the Institute’s aims to addressing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals especially within the African context.
Three special guest speakers have been invited:
- Dr Ntuthuko F. Masikane > Esturine and marine ecology lecturer, University of Zululand
- Prof George Branch > Marine biologist at the University of Cape Town, and author
- Dr Tanya Haupt-Schuter > Marine biodiversity scientist at Department of Environmental Affairs
Prizes will be awarded for the top student presentations.
