Title: P5 Project: Pondoland, Paleoecology, Paleoenvironment, Paleoclimate, and Paleoanthropology:  Evidence of human coastal exploitation during the last glacial maximum (LGM) and Early Holocene

Abstract

The Pondoland, Paleoecology, Paleoenvironment, Paleoclimate, and Paleoanthropology Project (P5 Project) began in 2010, by Dr. Erich Fisher from Arizona State University.  The current research focuses on finding evidence of coastal foraging and fish exploitation on the South Africa Eastern Cape Province over the last 30,000 years. Preliminary analysis of faunal remains from Waterfall Bluff rock shelter showed, for the first time, that fish had an important role in the diet of past populations. Analysis of the fish remains enable us to identify the taxonomic composition of the exploited fish, fishing area, fish body size, and fish consumption methods.  This is the first study on the contribution of fish to the economy of past population from the South Africa Eastern shore.

All welcome.
