East Kleinemonde Estuary fish community monitoring
Little is known about long-term changes in estuarine fish populations and related environmental variations. Fishes in the temporarily open/closed East Kleinemonde Estuary are sampled bi-annually, in summer and winter, using seine and gill nets. The project started in December 1994. Daily estuarine mouth state has been recorded since 1993. Emphasis is placed on investigating linkages between environmental variables and changes in fish abundance. This project is led by a team of SAIAB researchers (Nicola James, Paul Cowley and Alan Whitfield).
