SAIAB is to procure a virtualised next generation (NG) firewall. The firewall will initially be used to protect the SAIAB network from the internet by traffic created by malicious process and shutting those streams down. The use of this firewall may be extended at a later date to allow different areas of the internal network to be protected from one another. The firewall will also be required to classify the traffic crossing the border of the SAIAB network so as to only permit acceptable applications based on custom rules put in place. In addition, the firewall will need to monitor the use of SAIAB’s internet connection by sending notifications when serious events occur and generating reports as needed.

The vendor supplying the firewall will also enter into a 5 year service contract to provide downstream support and ad hoc products which may include components that directly integrate with the firewall such as Endpoint Protection.

The South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity (SAIAB) seeks to appoint a service provider(s) who can supply and deliver diesel to an accessible jetty to enable refueling of the new 15m research vessel. A supplier is required for each of the four locations from which the vessel will be operating, namely Port Elizabeth, East London, Durban and Richards Bay. If a bidder is able to supply in more than one location, this must be clearly indicated in their bid. Winning bidders may be asked to supply SAIAB vehicles with diesel, if this is possible. Each successful bidder will enter a two year (24 months) contract with SAIAB.

Dear suppliers,

We would like to bring to your attention the following two points of clarification regarding the Invitation to Bid NRF/SAIAB/2016-010 for an Ozone System Supplier:

1) Section 3 - Item 1. Ozone generation unit must be locally manufactured (RSA) - As the ozone corona discharge unit itself will likely be imported, please understand this section to mean that the Ozone Generation System is locally assembled using both imported and locally sourced components.

 2) Section 3 - Item 11. The protein skimmer body should be constructed of 304 stainless steel or LDPE. - It is assumed that the protein skimmer unit will include a foam management system in the form of a collection collar with foam dispersion and a drainage outlet (plumbing from the drainage outlet to waste is the responsibility of SAIAB). Please quote accordingly.

Service Provider who can supply, deliver and commission an Ozone System comprising an ozone generator, protein skimmer with venturi injection, ORP control system and handheld ORP probe.

Qualified Service Provider who can supply and deliver 95 – 99% Ethanol to the South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity (SAIAB) on an ad-hoc   basis for a period of five (5) years.


 Service Provider for the installation and configuration of a scalable environment monitoring system which will initially be used to monitor several -20°C and -80°C freezers.

Once installed, the vendor will then be required to maintain and supply consumables, spares and upgrades for this environment monitoring system for a period of five (5) years on an ad hoc basis. The installation requirements are detailed in the list of specifications (section 3).

UPDATE : Please be advised that due to a lack of response from potential suppliers and/or failure to meet the required specifications, the bid deadline for the SAIAB bid detailed below has now been extended for a period of two weeks, and will now close Friday 23 Oct 2015.
